A classical hot spiced drink popular in Kashmir year-round, especially enjoyed in winter.
Heel Khurd (cardamom) 2-4 no.; Jaifal (nutmeg) 1/4 piece; Zafran (saffron) 15-20 filaments; Maghz Badam Shireen (crushed almond) 8-10 no.; Aab (water) 2.5 cups
Slightly crush the almond, cardamom and nutmeg. Add to water in a covered pan and boil on low flame for 8-10 minutes. Remove from flame and let settle for a minute, then filter into a cup. Add honey to taste if needed and sip hot. Garnish with chopped almonds; cloves, mace, cinnamon or green tea leaves may also be used. Serving: 50-100 mL.
