Fresh ginger pieces softened and preserved in concentrated sugar syrup.
Zanjabeel Taaza / Adrak (fresh ginger) 1 kg; Qand Safed (sugar) 2 kg
Wash, peel and cut ginger into 1-inch pieces. Boil in water for 2-3 minutes (a little salt may be added) to soften, then remove and dry. Boil sugar and water on medium flame till the syrup (Qiwam) reaches the required consistency, add the ginger pieces and cook a few minutes. Preserve in an airtight jar after cooling. Serving: 10-20 g.
Due to its hot and dry nature, commonly used in winter and for people of cold temperament. Strengthens stomach, kidney and urinary bladder, increases urine output and sexual power; a good expectorant and carminative, useful for productive cough, phlegmatic fever, flatulence, gastric pain and backache. Note: Not to be given to diabetics.
